Camp Sunnybrook 2011 Family Day

On August 4th, our six-week camp Sunnybrook Program culminated in our Annual Family Day celebration. This year, we were also able to show families our beautifully renovated camp facility at Landis Lodge. Our 24 campers, staff and volunteers were joined by their families, local Lions Club Supporters and others for an impressive day of musical entertainment, craft displays, camper and volunteer awards, and swimming skills demonstrations, as well as a fun and fabulous picnic.

Many thanks to all of those who made the camp and the event a huge success including Sandy Albaugh, Camp Director, Eric Perkins, Music Instructor, Shannon Bogush, Crafts Instructor and Steve Pickering, Writing Instructor, as well as all of the DVI support staff, who worked with the campers throughout the six-weeks on mobility skills, Braille skills, computer technology, cooking skills, reading and much more. Kudos to our many camp volunteers, all of whom were local high school students, who donated more than a 1,200 hours combined to assist campers throughout the day, and join them for many of our fun, exciting and instructive field trips.

We also thank our pool staff and swimming instructors, Suzie Brazeau, Liz Veith and Christi Husband for all of the incredible work they did with the campers to instruct them on the swimming skills each day. Many campers became true water bugs! On family day, each camper was able to demonstrate the many skills that were learned over the six-weeks to include water survival skills, kick board skills, floating skills; and for the more experienced campers, diving, free-style, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly.
